Eastern Air Command organizes cycle expedition in Shillong

Shillong: As part of Diamond Jubilee Celebrations, the Eastern Air Command of Indian Air Force (IAF) has organized a cycle expedition, wherein three teams of 11 members each from Purnea, Chabua and Shillong have participated.

Senior Air Staff Officer of Eastern Air Command Air Marshal VR Chaudhari had flagged of this expedition from Kendriya Vidyalaya at Upper Shillong in Meghalaya.

The expedition will culminate on February 26 at Guwahati in Assam, Shillong-based Defence PRO Wing Commander Ratnakar Singh said.

The Eastern Air Command is one of the five operational commands of the IAF, headquartered at Shillong in Meghalaya. Named No 1 Operational Group at the time of its inception, May 27, 1958 based at Ranikutir in Kolkata as a part of the government’s increasing emphasis on defence of the eastern borders.

The Operational Group was upgraded as Command on December 1, 1959 with headquarters at Fort William in Kolkata.
