Indian Air Force commences fighter operations at civil airfields in North East

Guwahati: Aiming to make its personnel familiar with the procedure of flying and coordinate with the civilian counterparts in the north eastern region, the Indian Air Force (IAF) has planned  fighter operations from six airfields in two phases from October 16.

The area of operations include Dimapur , Imphal , Guwahati, Kolkata , Pasighat and Andal under the aegis of Eastern Air Command.

The first which started on Wednesday will conclude on October 19 while the other phase would start on October 29 for three days.

The exercise will be the part of capability  building and operational training of undertaking operations from dispersed locations in case of hostilities, Shillong-based Defence PRO Wing Commander Ratnakar Singh said.

The first phase will take place in the areas of Guwahati , Imphal , Dimapur and Kolkata and will have all Sukhoi aircraft in the operations. Three jets would be from Kolkata airbase and 2 each at other three.

Second phase of operations will be witnessed at Andal and Pasighat.

It  will  help familiarising the civilian functionaries at these  airfields in the conduct of military operations, he added.

Fighter aircraft Sukhoi-30 MKI and and Hawk 132 will participate in this exercise.
