New Delhi: Calling abrogation of Article 370 as a “historic step”, Indian Army Chief Gen MM Naravane on Wednesday said that the move would help in integrating the Jammu and Kashmir with mainstream.
He also said that the step has disrupted the proxy war carried out by the western neighbor (Pakistan).
“Abrogation of Article 370 will help Jammu and Kashmir integrate with the mainstream. The historic step has disrupted proxy war by our western neighbor,” Gen Naravane said in his first speech on Army Day.
He assumed the charge as Chief of Army Staff on December 31, succeeding Gen Bipin Rawat who became the country’s first Chief of Defence Staff (CDS).
The Army Chief the soldiers are the strength of the armed forces. Adding that India has “zero-tolerance” for terrorism.
The borders are strongly guarded and that India is ready for any future warfare, he added.
On the occasion, the Indian Army showcased its military might and some of its state-of-the-art assets at the majestic Army Day parade at the Cariappa Parade Ground in Delhi Cantt.
In a first for any woman officer, Captain Tania Sher Gill, an officer with Army’s Corps of Signals, led all-men contingents at the Army Day parade.
Chief of Defence Staff Gen Bipin Rawat along with Indian Air Force Chief Air Chief Marshal RKS Bhadauria and Indian Navy Chief Admiral Karambir Singh were also present.
