Army releases compendium on remount and veterinary matters

Aiming to equip with the latest trends and be ever ready to combat various challenges, the Indian Army has come up with a comprehensive compendium of policies, advisories, SOPs and training directives on Remount and Veterinary (RV) matters.
The compendium is related to management, training, prevention, treatment and control of various diseases in army animals.
Nagrota-based White Knight Corps’ Remount and Veterinary branch decided to make a consolidated platform to readers a thoroughly revised and updated edition of various policies and advisories issued from time to time, an official in the Indian Army said. The compendium is illustrated in four parts dedicated to equine, canines and bovines among others.
“The need is felt because of constraints of keeping army animals in inhospitable terrain and mode of operations in most challenging circumstances. Hence, the prevalence of diseases and management practices followed are quiet unique in comparison to the normal ones,' the officer added.
A detailed approach was made with regards to training and deployment of army dogs, the silent warriors of Indian armed forces which act as a force multiplier in safeguarding the nation.
The compendium was released by the previous Northern Command GOC-in-C Lt Gen Devraj Anbu, and White Knight Corps GOC Lt Gen Saranjeet Singh.
The event was also attended by COS Northern Command HQ Lt Gen Paramjit Singh and COS HQ of White Knight Corps HQ Maj Gen DS Gill.
