Assuring of all assistance to brave-heart’s family, Army chief Gen Bipin Rawat on Monday visited to Late Rifleman Aurangzeb’s house in his native village salani of Poonch, met his family members and said that the supreme sacrifice rendered by the brave son of India will not go in vain.
Before visiting to his house, the chief visited the forward areas along the line of control bordering Pakistan in Nagrota and took stock of prevailing security situation in the region. White Knight Corps GoC Lt Gen Saranjeet Singh briefed the army chief about the security position. He was accompanied by Northern Command commander Lt Gen Ranbir Singh. During his visit to forward areas, the army chief also interacted with the soldiers and complemented them for their professionalism, selfless commitment and loyalty, the Indian Army said. He also exhorted the troops to continue working with zeal and dedication to overcome the challenges posed by weather, enemy and terrorism. He also commended the synergy between all security agencies and civil administration in Jammu and Kashmir. On June 15, a rifleman with Jammu and Kashmir Light Infantry (JAKLI) Regiment was gunned down after the terrorists abducted him while on way to his home for Eid celebrations. The government had announced "non-initiation of counterinsurgency operations" (NICO) in the state on May 17 for the month of Ramadan. It was announced for a month. In its review meeting, the government decided not to give any further extension of NICO.
