New Delhi: The cases of ceasefire violations (CFV) saw a rise of triple the number of such violations by the Pakistan Army in September 2019 in comparison to the same month previous year and 2017.

As per sources in the defence establishments, “September witnessed 292 violations, out of which 250 took place in South of Pir Panjal and the rest in the north of Pir Panjal. This is much higher as compared to the violations during the same month in 2017- 101 and 2018- 102.”

This year, 2,317 ceasefire violations have taken place, as per the internal government report.

There were 1,629 violations last year and 860 in 2017. The violations have largely taken place in south of Pir Panjal in Jammu and Kashmir this year.

The cases of ceasefire violations have been increasing from July onwards.

It was 296 in July and increased to 307 in August, including 258 from August 6 and 31 following the Centre abrogating Article 370 on August 5.

Not only this, the Pakistani Army has also been targeting civilians during such violations.

On September 14, the Pakistan Army targeted schools in Balakot and Sandot in J&K and 120 students had to be evacuated.

“This matter of targeting of civilians by Pakistan was raised by the Indian side during Military Operation talks at the Brigadier level between the two sides on October 1,” an official added.

Infiltration attempts also increased in September.

Intelligence inputs pointed at 28 terrorists who attempted to infiltrate into India. Twelve of them were successful, officials said.

In August, the army had foiled 10 to 12 infiltration attempts. Earlier, there were two successful infiltrations.

The internal report also suggest a decline in civilian agitation in J&K following August 5.

In September there were 85 instances of stone pelting, five instances of civil protest and three calls for bandh. “This is less than half the number of instances that took place in August,” an official said.

Since August, 67 percent of the agitations have been confined to Srinagar, while the rest mainly took place in Budgam, Pulwama and Baramulla. Very few instances happened in known terrorist hotbeds such as Anantnag, Shopian, Kupwara and Rajouri.

Recruitment of locals by terrorists is also on the decline.

There were only 6 recruitments in July and 7 in August. Incidents sparked by terrorists such as firing was 8 in July, 4 in August and 12 in September.
