Armies of India and Malaysia on Thursday carried out the training in jungle survival techniques during their ongoing first-ever joint military exercise “Harimau Shakti” 2018 at Wardieburn camp in Kuala Lumpur. “During phase 1 of the military exercise, the Malaysian Army combat engineers have exchanged their expertise on chemical warfare and protection in jungle warfare from chemical agents with combat engineer team from 3 engineer regiment of Indian Army,” Col Aman Anand, Indian Army PRO said. The Indian Army combat engineers and the Malaysian Army combat engineers also carried out a practical training on individual protection equipment to fight in chemical warfare scenario during counter insurgency operations in jungles. As part of the subject matter expert exchange, a lecture and demonstration on combat tracker team was organised at Wardieburn Camp on Wednesday. Combat Tracker Team (CTT), is a specialized team comprising of trained dogs and handlers being employed with combat personnel for tracking and recovery. CTT is part of the War Dog Wing which is specifically designed as a unit for undertaking various operational tasks involving dogs and is co-located with the Army Combat Training centre at Johar Bahru in Malaysia. The lecture was followed by a demonstration on the modus operandi of a CTT when employed with a section for tracking insurgents.
The lecture and demonstration was conducted by Captain Stefano from the Training Cell of War Dog Wing, an expert in training of dogs for military purposes with vast experience including exposure with Australian Army, Col Anand added. It was the fourth day of exercise and it will be concluded on May 13. The first phase of the joint military exercise will end on May 5 and the second phase of it would start from May 6. 90 soldiers from Indian Army and about 123 from the Malaysian Army are participating in this exercise. Malaysia is the only country which has wiped out insurgency completely from their soil.
