Colonel Santosh Babu made the supreme sacrifice in Galwan valley.

New Delhi: On the occasion of 73rd Army Day, the Indian Army released names of its fallen heroes for the year 2020. A total of 100 Army soldiers – including officers, JCOs and other ranks – made supreme sacrifice in the line of duty to protect country’s integrity and sovereignty during the year 2020.

Those killed in action also include a commanding officer posted in the Galwan valley in eastern Ladakh along with subedars, havildars and sepoys, following a violent clash with Chinese troops on June 15. The skirmish erupted when Colonel Santosh Babu found that Chinese troops failed to follow the de-escalation process which was agreed upon by both sides during their talks.

Apart from the skirmish with China’s People Liberation Army soldiers in Galwan valley, the Indian Army also lost many officers, JCOs and jawans in counterinsurgency operations in Kashmir.
