Jodhpur: Indian Army’s Konark Corps on Wednesday celebrated its 33rd ‘Raising Day’, carrying on the glorious saga of ‘Honour’, ‘Valour’ and ‘Sacrifice’ displayed over the years.“
To commemorate the occasion, Konark Corps General Officer Commanding Lieutenant General Anil Puri laid a wreath at the Konark War Memorial, Jodhpur Military Station in Rajasthan in a solemn ceremony, in revered remembrance of the martyrs who laid down their lives in the various battles fought in this sector while ensuring the safety and security of our great Nation,” Rajasthan-based Defence PRO Col Sombit Ghosh said.
The Corps Commander interacted with the Veterans of Jodhpur after laying the wreath.
On the auspicious day of ‘Mahashivratri’ 32 years ago, a golden chapter was added in the annals of military history of Indian Army when the Desert Corps came into existence to protect the country’s borders along Rajasthan and Gujarat, he added.
Jodhpur was selected as the Headquarters, due to its rich cultural heritage and historical importance.
The Corps adopted ‘Konark’ as its formation insignia, symbolic of the ‘Radiations of Sun’ in eight cardinal directions and draws inspiration from ‘Konark Sun Temple’ of Puri thereby establishing a spiritual link with the ‘Sun City’.
As the Indian Army readies itself to overcome the latest global and regional security challenges, the Konark Corps remains ever steadfast and focused on enhancing its operational readiness through astute professionalism, sheer hard work and dedication.
