Konark Corps organises massive plantation drive in Jodhpur Military Station

Jodhpur:  In yet another earnest attempt to work for the society and raise awareness about the green cover, Indian Army’s Konark Corps has organised massive plantation drive at Jodhpur Military station in Rajasthan.

The plantation drive was celebrated with creative exuberance and upheld values of environmental preservation and sustainable development, Rajasthan-based Defence PRO Col Sombit Ghosh said.

In a joint effort by the Army and the Rajasthan and Gujarat Forest Departments, more than 11,000 saplings of numerous varieties of Gulmohar, Neem, Amaltas, Bougainvillea, Guava, Shehtut amongst many others were planted.

“Sustainable and eco-friendly methods of drip and sprinkler irrigation were utilised while planting the saplings over an area of 12 square kilometers in number of pockets across Jodhpur military station,”he said.

Adhering to the present social distancing norms, all ranks and their families came together to plant saplings across the station, the defence PRO added.

The event marked raising of traditional societal consciousness to environmental protection that is the hallmark of our national heritage in general and Indian Army in particular.

The sight of everyone working hand-in-hand with frolic and cheer for a better tomorrow was heartening.

Konark Corps Commander Lt Gen Anil Puri emphasised the importance of increment in green cover as a medium to sustain a healthy environment, free of pollution and  healthy life.
