Lt Gen Ranbir Singh appointed Northern Army commander

Lt Gen Ranbir Singh of the Dogra Regiment, who became famous for the 2016 surgical strikes, has been appointed the new general officer commanding in chief (GOC-in-C) of Northern Command of the Indian Army.
He replaced Lt Gen Anbu, who has been appointed as the vice-chief of the Indian Army.
Lt Gen Singh was the director general military operations (DGMO) when Indian Army carried out surgical strikes across the line of control (LoC) to hit at terror camps in Pakistan-occupied Kashmir (PoK).
Lt Gen Anbu succeeded vice-chief of Indian Army Lt Gen Sarath Chand, who retires on Thursday.
