New Delhi: Outgoing Chief of the Army Staff General Bipin Rawat called on President Ram Nath Kovind at Rashtrapati Bhavan on Monday.
Gen Rawat, who is due to retire on Tuesday, is widely tipped to be anointed as the first Chief of Defence Staff.
The CDS will function as a single-point adivsor to the government on matters related to the military and will provide better synergy among the Indian Army, Indian Air Force and the Indian Navy.
On Tuesday, he will complete a full three-year term as the Chief of Army Staff.
General Rawat is poised to be the first officer to hold the post of the Chief of Defence Staff, which was approved by the Union Cabinet just days ago.
