Team India Sentinels 8.26am, Wednesday, May 16, 2018.
After the government asked the security forces not to launch counter terror operations in Jammu and Kashmir during the “Ramdan” month, the Indian Army on Wednesday said they will retaliate if their convoy or camp attacked.
The Army will definitely initiate action if they get any specific intelligence about the terror activities in the state. However, the status quo will be maintained along the Line of Control, bordering with Pakistan.
“We had two concerns with regards to Non Initiative of Combat Operations (NICO) in the Kashmir valley during the month of Ramdan. 1. Right to retaliate in the case of attack on our personnel or camp. 2. The Road Opening Party (ROP) continue to take part,” top sources in the Army said.
It will effective from May 17 till June 16, the day on which Ramadan will end. It is celebrated as Eid al-Fitr worldwide by Muslims.
The Search and Destroy Operation (SADO) and Combat and Search Operations (CASO) will be reduced to a certain level.
The decision was taken after the Mehbooba Mufti-led Jammu and Kashmir government urged the Union Home Ministry to initiate ceasefire in the valley in the wake of Muslim’s holy month.
It is said that the Home Ministry consulted with the Ministry of Defence and other stakeholders and then informed Chief Minister Mehbooba Mufti about this decision.
However, a total of 65 terrorists were neutralized this year, number of Ceasefire Violations increased to 863.
This year 41 locals were recruited by the terrorist organizations while 48 infiltration attempts were made in 2018. Out of which, they got success in 24 attempts.
