Kolkata: Daljit Singh Chaudhary, director general of the Border Security Force, accompanied by Ravi Gandhi, additional director general of BSF Eastern Command, and Maninder Pratap Singh, inspector general of BSF South Bengal, conducted a major inspection of the India-Bangladesh border in West Bengal’s North 24 Parganas district and the Sundarbans region. The visit aimed to assess the BSF's operational readiness and strategic positioning in these crucial border areas.

Chaudhary, who also heads the Sashastra Seema Bal, took on the additional role of BSF director general on August 3. This marks his first major official tour since assuming the new responsibility. In light of recent developments in Bangladesh, the BSF has heightened its alert status along the India-Bangladesh border and bolstered troop numbers in the area.

The tour began with a comprehensive briefing at the South Bengal Frontier Headquarters, where Ravi Gandhi outlined the strategic landscape and operations of the BSF Eastern Command battalions. Chaudhary was informed about the BSF’s critical role in maintaining national security along this sensitive international boundary.

Following the briefing, Chaudhary and his colleagues travelled to Dhamakhali, where the commandant of BSF’s 118th Battalion detailed their duties along the water border with Bangladesh. The battalion highlighted the unique challenges posed by the mangrove forests and aquatic terrain, as well as the effective measures implemented to combat border crimes, including smuggling and illegal crossings.

The visit concluded with an inspection of an outpost situated in the dense Sundarbans mangroves.

This high-level visit underscores the BSF’s commitment to vigilantly safeguarding India’s borders and ensuring regional peace and security. The ongoing efforts of the BSF in the Sundarbans and North 24 Parganas are crucial in preventing cross-border criminal activities and safeguarding the nation’s borders.
