New Delhi: The director general of the Border Security Force, Daljit Singh Chaudhary, accompanied by Ravi Gandhi, additional director general of BSF Eastern Command, arrived on a one-day visit to Frontier Headquarters BSF Salbagan at Tripura’s capital, Agartala, on Wednesday to review the security and operational preparedness of the border-guarding force on the India-Bangladesh border.

Chaudhary’s visit to Tripura, which shares a long border with Bangladesh, comes a day after his visit to the Sundarbans and North 24 Parganas in West Bengal, as India Sentinels had reported. The DG BSF’s visit comes amid an ongoing political turmoil and widespread violence in Bangladesh, following which India has tightened its vigil along the entire 4,096-kilometre-long international border with the neighbouring country.

After Chaudhary’s arrival at Agartala, the inspector general of the BSF’s Tripura Frontier, Patel Piyush Purusottam Das, briefed him about the BSF’s current operations and the state of preparedness in the state.

Later, Chaudhary chaired a meeting with senior officers of the BSF and discussed the ongoing law & order situation in Bangladesh and its implications on the security scenario.

While assessing operational readiness, Chaudhary commended the BSF Tripura Frontier’s commitment and diligence in protecting the India-Bangladesh frontier. He praised their effective measures to thwart illegal border crossings and cross-border criminal activities.

He further had a meeting with the DG of Tripura Police, Amitabh Ranjan, and the ADG (law & order) of the state, Anurag Dhankar, on a range of issues concerning the state.

Later in the evening, Chaudhary left Agartala for New Delhi.
