Aizawl: In a major success in its crusade against smuggling activities, the Serchhip Battalion of HQ 23 Sector Assam Rifles under the aegis of Headquarter Inspector General Assam Rifles (East) recovered 01 x AK-56 Rifle with 03 x empty mags, 01x 9mm pistol in jungle area of Zote in Mizoram on Monday.
The operation was carried out by a team of Assam Rifles and Customs Department, Champhai District based on specific information.
01 x AK-56 series Rifles with 03 x empty mags & 9mm Pistol also taken by Custom Department, Champhai seized the weapon and further interrogation & findings. The ongoing smuggling of illegal goods is a major cause of concern for the state of Mizoram.
Assam Rifles, rightly christened as the ‘Sentinels of Northeast’ have been successful in launching such operations against the smuggling activities in Mizoram.
