Indian Coast Guard successfully conducts course for maritime security agencies of six nations

New Delhi: The Indian Coast Guard has successfully conducted a one-week operations and search and rescue course at Mumbai’s Maritime Rescue Coordination Centre, on Friday. The course, which started from January 16 and ended on January 21, was conducted under the aegis of Indian Technical and Economic Cooperation Programme (ITEC) for officers and sailors of maritime security agencies from six friendly foreign countries – Bangladesh, Maldives, Mauritius, Myanmar, Seychelles, and Sri Lanka.

Twenty-two trainees comprising 10 officers and 12 sailors participated in the specialized training. The course was inaugurated by the IG Coast Guard (West), MV Badkar.

According to a Coast Guard release, the one-week course was modelled and designed in consonance with the best global practices primarily keeping in mind the legal aspects of maritime search and rescue (M-SAR), M-SAR planning and coordination, global maritime distress and safety system, etc.

The Coast Guard said the training also included lectures by visiting faculties from the Airports Authority of India, Indian Centre for Ocean Information Services, Indian National Mission Control Centre,

Indian Space Research Organization, and subject experts from the force itself.

Apart from classroom instructions, the course also included training visits and on-job training at the MRCC, Directorate General Shipping Communication Centre, and Mumbai airport air traffic control (ATC).
