Champhai: In yet another success in its crusade against smuggling activities, Serchhip Battalion of 23 Sector Assam Rifles recovered 420 cases of foreign-origin cigarettes worth ₹5.46 crore in General Area Ruantlang near Tiau river of Champhai district in Mizoram, on Thursday.
The operation was carried out by a joint team of Assam Rifles and Custom Preventive Force, Champhai based on specific information.

The Assam Rifles team recovered the items which were dumped in General Area Ruantlang near Tiau River.
Approximate cost of the recovered foreign origin cigarette is Rs 5.46 crore.

The seized items were handed over to Customs department, Champhai on November 3 for further legal proceedings.
“Ongoing smuggling of foreign origin cigarette is a major cause of concern for the state of Mizoram, especially along the India-Myanmar Border,” an Assam Rifles official said.
Assam Rifles, rightly christened as the ‘Sentinels of Northeast’ have continued their efforts against the smuggling activities in Mizoram, he said.
