Ramanathapuram: The CISF Coastal Cyclothon 2025, a historic initiative aimed at promoting coastal security awareness and national integrity, reached Ramanathapuram district, Tamil Nadu, on Saturday.
The cyclists, who have been on an extensive journey covering thousands of kilometers, were warmly welcomed as they arrived in the region, passing through the sacred sites of Rameswaram and Dhanushkodi.
This grand cyclothon was flagged off virtually by the Union home minister, Amit Shah, March 7 from the CISF Regional Training Centre, Thakkolam, Tamil Nadu.
The event features two teams of dedicated CISF personnel – one beginning their journey from Bakkhali (West Bengal) and the other from Kot Lakhpat (Gujarat).
The objective of this initiative is to raise awareness about drug trafficking, arms smuggling, maritime security, women empowerment, and environmental cleanliness. Throughout their journey, the cyclists have been engaging with local communities, schools, and coastal authorities to reinforce the message of a secure and prosperous India.
Welcoming the cyclists, Shankar Kumar Jha, senior commandant, CISF, extended his heartfelt appreciation for their relentless dedication.
He emphasized the significance of coastal security in safeguarding national interests and stressed the need for continuous public awareness regarding threats like illegal smuggling, human trafficking, and other maritime challenges. He also highlighted the role of the CISF in protecting critical infrastructure and ensuring national security along India’s vast coastline.
As part of this journey, the cyclists have traversed multiple key locations, interacting with local communities and spreading awareness about national security and public welfare.
The public response in Ramanathapuram, Rameswaram, and Dhanushkodi has been overwhelmingly positive, with enthusiastic participation from students, NCC cadets, and local residents. Various cultural performances, awareness programs, and security demonstrations were conducted to engage with the public and spread key messages of national safety and wellbeing.
