New Delhi: The Defence Research and Development Organization has successfully conducted three test-flights of its 4th-generation, technologically sophisticated miniaturized very short-range air-defence system (VSHORADS) at the Pokhran Field Firing Ranges in Rajasthan. The evaluations were carried out against a fast-moving aerial target, demonstrating crucial parameters such as maximum-range and maximum-altitude interception.h

These developmental assessments exhibited the consistency of the weapon system’s hit-to-kill proficiency across various target-engagement scenarios, encompassing approaching, receding, and crossing modes.

The development phase of VSHORADS missiles has reached completion, with two production entities engaged under the development-cum-production partner (DcPP) framework. The missiles employed in these trials, produced through DcPPs, have proven effective, thereby facilitating prompt user trials and production within a shortened timeframe.

VSHORADS is a man-portable air-defence system conceived and developed domestically by Research Centre Imarat (RCI) in conjunction with additional DRDO laboratories and DcPPs. The three services have been associated with the initiative from its outset and have participated throughout the developmental trials.
