Bengaluru: The 15th edition of Aero India, Asia’s premier aerospace and defence exhibition, has commenced at the Air Force Station Yelahanka in Bengaluru. Running from 10 to 14 February, the event – themed “The Runway to a Billion Opportunities” – highlights India’s growing prowess in aerospace and defence technologies while fostering global partnerships and advancing the nation’s “Make-in-India” initiative.

This year’s exhibition has drawn significant attention with the debut of two of the world’s most advanced fifth-generation fighter jets – Russia’s Sukhoi Su-57E and the United States’ Lockheed Martin F-35 Lightning II. The Su-57, celebrated for its stealth capabilities and agility, wowed spectators with a breathtaking aerial display, while the F-35 showcased its cutting-edge technology, underscoring its status as a cornerstone of the US Air Force.

Spotlight on Indigenous Innovation

A key focus of Aero India 2025 is India’s strides in indigenous defence manufacturing. The India Pavilion, a centrepiece of the event, highlights homegrown technologies developed under the Innovations for Defence Excellence (iDEX) initiative. Among the exhibits are advanced communication systems, electro-optic devices, electronic warfare solutions, and AI-powered defence technologies. Bharat Electronics Limited (BEL) is showcasing its latest innovations, including 5G solutions tailored for defence applications, reflecting India’s commitment to self-reliance in defence production.

Strategic Dialogues and Global Partnerships

The event is not just a showcase of technology but also a platform for strategic discussions and business collaborations. A Defence Ministers’ Conclave – themed “BRIDGE - Building Resilience through International Defence and Global Engagement – is facilitating high-level dialogue among participating nations. Additionally, a CEOs’ Roundtable is providing a forum for global defence giants to explore manufacturing opportunities in India, with leaders from foreign original equipment manufacturers (OEMs) and Indian public and private sector companies in attendance.

Major Deals in the Pipeline

Aero India 2025 has already set the stage for significant defence deals. India is reportedly in advanced talks with France for the export of the indigenously built Pinaka multi-barrel rocket launcher system, marking a potential milestone as one of India’s largest defence exports to a key partner nation. Meanwhile, discussions with the US are underway for the co-production of combat vehicles and the finalization of a fighter jet engine deal, signalling deepening defence ties between the two nations.

Global Participation

The event has attracted over 150 foreign companies and representatives from 30 countries, cementing its status as a global hub for aerospace and defence collaboration. From cutting-edge technology displays to high-stakes business negotiations, Aero India 2025 is poised to bolster India’s position as a rising power in the global aerospace industry.

As the event unfolds, it is clear that Aero India 2025 is not just an exhibition but a testament to India’s ambitions to become a global leader in defence manufacturing and innovation. With its blend of indigenous achievements and international partnerships, the event is a significant step forward in India’s journey towards self-reliance and global prominence in the aerospace and defence sectors.
