New Delhi: India and Sri Lanka reviewed their ongoing defence cooperation activities, on Thursday, , the government said in a news release. The two countries also agreed to increase the complexity of bilateral military exercises between them.
The Indian defence secretary, Giridhar Aramane, and his Sri Lankan counterpart, General Kamal Gunaratne, held the 7th India-Sri Lanka Annual Defence Dialogue and reaffirmed their commitment to avail maximum benefits from each other’s military experience and capacities. Aramane thanked Gunaratne and his delegation for a fruitful dialogue and stated that India looks forward to continued engagement based on the common understanding reached at the dialogue.

In the dialogue, apart from Aramane, the Indian delegation included officials from the defence ministry, Integrated Defence Staff headquarters, services headquarters, and the foreign ministry. The Sri Lankan delegation included the commander of Sri Lankan air force, Air Marshal Sudarshana Karagoda Pathirana, among other senior dignitaries.
This bilateral defence dialogue between India and Sri Lanka is an annual event. It is also the highest institutionalized interactive mechanism between both the countries.
