New Delhi: India celebrated its 75th Republic Day with a grand parade and tableaux show at the national capital’s Kartavya Path, on Friday. The event was marked by a fusion of tradition, security vigilance, and cultural extravaganza.

The day kicked off with the unfurling of the national flag accompanied by the resonating rendition of the national anthem, symbolizing unity, and patriotism. The French president, Emmanuel Macron, who was the chief guest for the event, was accorded a ceremonial welcome. The main event unfolded with the commencement of the Republic Day parade at 10.30am. A spectacle of precision and pageantry, the parade showcased India’s rich heritage and diverse cultural tapestry. The parade route stretched from Vijay Chowk to Kartavya Path and created a picturesque spectacle symbolizing the nation’s progress.

The parade was a visual feast, with captivating tableaux that depicted the diversity and culture of various states. The tableaux highlighted women’s roles in socio-economic activities, the contribution of women scientists, and other themes that celebrated women empowerment.

The parade also featured an all-women triservice contingent, which was a first in the history of the Republic Day parade. The parade was also marked by the reinstatement of the parade buggy.

The military prowess of the nation took centre stage, highlighting its strength and preparedness. The parade showcased the indigenously developed light combat aircraft (LCA) Tejas and the recently inducted C-295 transport aircraft as they made their inaugural flypast over the Kartavya Path. The celebration reached new heights with a breathtaking flypast by the Indian Air Force, leaving spectators in awe of the nation’s air prowess.

The parade also witnessed a march past by a combined band and marching contingent of the French Foreign Legion and a flypast by the French air force’s two Rafale fighters and a multirole tanker tansport aircraft.

The Republic Day celebrations of 2024 promised a memorable tribute to the nation’s unity, diversity, and progress. The day was marked by a series of firsts, including the all-women triservice contingent and the reinstatement of the parade buggy. The themes for this year’s Republic Day were “Viksit Bharat” (Developed India) and “Bharat – Loktantra ki Matruka” (India – Mother of Democracy), encapsulating the aspirations and democratic ethos of the nation.

Earlier before the parade started, the prime minister, Narendra Modi, led the nation along with the defence minister, Rajnath Singh; the chief of defence staff, General Anil Chauhan; the Indian Army chief, General Manoj Pande; the Indian Navy chief, Admiral Radhakrishnan Hari Kumar; and the Indian Air Force chief, Air Chief Marshal Vivek Ram Chaudhari, in paying tributes to the Indian service personnel who laid down their lives in the line of duty, at the National War Memorial.
