New Delhi: In order to disengage and de-escalate the border standoff between troops of two Himalayan nations, the military commanders of India and China will hold their eighth round of talks this week.

India has been pressing for disengagement and de-escalation of troops and weapons from all friction points while China wants to discuss south of Pangong Tso only.

So far seven round of talks have been held but there was no breakthrough on the disengagement of troops.

‘‘The eighth round of military talks is likely to take place this week,’’ said a source on Tuesday.

The standoff between the two sides erupted in early May.

Temperatures drop to minus 25 degrees Celsius during winter months in the high altitude areas.

The Indian delegation at the eighth round of military talks will be led by Lt Gen PGK Menon, the newly-appointed Commander of the Leh-based 14 Corps.
