New Delhi: India on Tuesday assured Palestine of all possible support in fight against the coronavirus pandemic.
Prime Minister Narendra Modi held a telephonic conversation with Palestinian President Mahmoud Abbas and discussed the COVID-19 situation and steps being taken towards dealing with the global pandemic.
“The two leaders discussed the challenges posed by the ongoing COVID-19 pandemic, and apprised each other of the steps being taken in their respective countries to control the situation,” the Prime Minister Office (PMO) said in a statement.
Mr Modi appreciated the efforts being made by the Palestine authorities to protect their population from the virus and assured all possible support from India for these efforts.
The two leaders agreed to remain in touch at appropriate levels to explore avenues of cooperation at this challenging time.
Ten new cases of coronavirus were confirmed on Tuesday in the West Bank bringing overall total in the country, not including occupied Jerusalem, to 284, according to the Palestinian government.
The prime minister also conveyed greetings to the President and the people of Palestine, for the forthcoming holy month of Ramadan.
On Monday, Mr Modi talked to his Vietnamese counterpart Nguyen Xuan Phuc and discussed the COVID-19 situation and steps taken towards dealing with the disease.
As per the official release by the government, both the leaders reiterated the strategic partnership between India and Vietnam and expressed satisfaction on various fronts of the bilateral relations.
They also reviewed regional and international developments.
Last week, Mr Modi also spoke with his counterparts in Japan Shinzo Abe and Nepal KP Sharma Oli on the same issue.
