New Delhi: Amid sharp reactions on Israel's plan of annexation of the West Bank from the world over, India on Thursday reiterated that the final status issues should be resolved through direct negotiations between the two parties -- Israel and Palestine.

Asked for his comments on the issue during virtual  media briefing, External Affairs Ministry's official spokesperson Anurag Srivastava said: "We urge the Parties to engage with each other and find an acceptable two-State solution for peaceful coexistence.''

The West Bank is located on the west bank of the Jordan River and is bounded by Israel on the north, west and south. On the east of this river lies Jordan. Since the 1967 Arab-Israel War, the West Bank has been occupied by Israel. Both Israelis and Palestinians assert their rights to the territory of the West Bank and its disputed status and the conflict has not been resolved as yet..

Israeli Prime Minister Benjamin Netanyahu has claimed that his plans do not involve an annexation of the West Bank. However, it would mean enforcing Israeli sovereignty over Israeli settlements.

On developments in Nepal, the spokesperson said that India and Nepal have age old civilization ties of friendship, rooted as they are in deep  cultural and societal linkages."We remain committed towards continuously strengthening these ties,'' he added.

On trade front, both India and Nepal have worked hard and diligently to ensure smooth flow of trade between the two countries. Even during the times of most stringent Covid-19 lockdown measures in India, the movement of trade in goods and supplies have continued smoothly.

Regarding embankment issue, the spokesperson added that repair and maintenance of embankments is being carried out regularly by the concerned state governments under the established mechanisms.
