New Delhi: Prime Minister Narendra Modi and visiting Portuguese President Marcelo Rebelo de Sousa on Friday held extensive talks, exploring ways to further strengthen bilateral ties in several areas.
The two leaders also exchanged views on how to increase bilateral trade and boost investment.
Portuguese President arrived on his maiden visit to India in the national Capital on Thursday evening.
He is accompanied by a high-level delegation, including Minister of State and Foreign Affairs Prof. Augusto Santos Silva.
Earlier in the day, the President of Portugal was accorded a ceremonial welcome at the forecourt of Rashtrapati Bhavan.
He also visited Rajghat and laid a wreath on the memorial of the Father of the Nation Mahatma Gandhi.
The two sides also exchanged seven agreements, relating to a number of areas which included cooperation in setting up a national maritime museum heritage complex in Lothal, Gujarat, cooperation in the field of industrial and intellectual property rights, audio-visual co-production, maritime transport and port development, mobility partnership and investments and start-ups.
The two countries also announced seven MoUs in a range of areas including cooperation in defence studies and strategic areas, development of web hubs, science and technology, aeronautics, and yoga, according to an official statement here.
President Ram Nath Kovind will meet his counterpart from Portugal on Friday evening and host a banquet in his honour.
Mr Sousa will also travel to Maharashtra and Goa during his visit which concludes on February 16.
