Modi to visit African nations for strong ties

Aiming to further cementing bilateral relations with the African nations, Prime Minister Narendra Modi will visit Rwanda and Uganda on Monday. The Prime Minister will pay a state visit to Republic of Rwanda on July 23, Uganda on July 24, the ministry of external affairs had said. On July 25, Mr Modi will leave for South Africa to attend the BRICS Summit during which key global issues, including international peace and security, are to be deliberated. This will be the first visit by an Indian Prime Minister to Rwanda and also to Uganda in over 20 years, the MEA added. During his visit to Rwanda and Uganda, he will hold bilateral meetings with the Presidents, delegation level talks and meetings with the business and the Indian communities. In Rwanda, Mr Modi will visit the Genocide Memorial and participate in an event on "Girinka” (one cow per family), a national social protection scheme of Rwanda personally initiated by President Paul Kagame. In Uganda, he will deliver a Keynote address at the Parliament of Uganda – the first Indian Prime Minister to address the Ugandan Parliament. In South Africa, Mr Modi will have bilateral meeting with the South African President and also attend the BRICS Summit and other BRICS related meetings. Bilateral meetings with participating countries on the sidelines of BRICS meetings are also planned.
