New Delhi: Stating that India does not only share waters of the Indian ocean with Mauritius but also a common heritage of culture and language, Prime Minister Narendra Modi on Thursday said that the partnership between two countries is destined to soar even higher in the coming years.
"We share not only the waters of the Indian Ocean with Mauritius, but also a common heritage of culture and language. Our friendship draws strength from the past and looks towards the future. India takes pride in the achievements of the people of Mauritius, " the prime minister said after jointly inaugurating the newly constructed Supreme Court building at Port Louis with his Mauritius counterpart Pravind Jugnauth through video conferencing on Thursday.
"Mauritius has build its success through hard work and innovation. The spirit of Mauritius is inspiring and our partnership is set to roar higher in the coming years, " he said.

Mr Modi said that India and Mauritius respect each others independent judiciaries as important pillars of democratic systems.
During the inauguration ceremony, the prime minister also highligted about metro project and ENT hospital.
"Only a few months back, we had jointly inaugurated the landmark Metro project and a new state-of-the-art hospital. I am happy to know that both these projects are proving useful for the people of Mauritius, " he added.
Talking about Indian Navy’s SAGAR initiative, he said, "It was in Mauritius that I had first spoken about India’s vision of ‘SAGAR – Security and Growth for All in the Region’. This is because Mauritius is at the heart of India’s approach to the Indian Ocean region. "
"History has taught us that in the name of development partnerships, nations were forced into dependence partnerships. It gave rise to colonial and imperial rule. It gave rise to global power blocks. India is making development partnerships that are marked by - Respect, Diversity, Care for the future and Sustainable development, " Mr Modi said.

He also talked about India’s development partnerships and said they are diverse.
"From commerce to culture, Energy to engineering, Health to housing, IT to infrastructure, Sports to science. India is working with nations across the globe. If India is honoured to help in the Parliament building in Afghanistan. It is also proud to be associated in the making of the Mahatma Gandhi Convention Centre in Niger," he said.
On Nepal, he said, "We've been happy to help Nepal improve its health services through construction of an Emergency and Trauma Hospital. "
On Sri Lanka, he added, "We were similarly privileged to support Sri Lanka's efforts of establishing Emergency Ambulance services in all 9 provinces. "
"We're glad that the pipeline project we're doing with Nepal will help ensure availability of petroleum products. We're also delighted to contribute towards availability of drinking water and sanitation in 34 islands of the Maldives, " he said.
On Afghanistan and Guyana, the prime minister added that, "We've tried to make cricket popular in countries as diverse as Afghanistan and Guyana by helping build stadiums and other facilities. We're excited to see the young Afghan cricket team train in India."
