New Delhi: The Vietnamese prime minister, Pham Minh Chinh, has arrived in New Delhi, on Tuesday, for a three-day state visit to India. Accompanied by a high-level delegation, including several ministers, deputy ministers, and business leaders, Chinh’s visit aims to strengthen bilateral ties and enhance cooperation between the two nations.
Chinh’s is the first visit by a Vietnamese prime minister to India after New Delhi and Hanoi signed a comprehensive strategic partnership between each other in 2016. His visit comes at the invitation of the prime minister, Narendra Modi.
According to a statement released by the foreign ministry, Chinh will receive a formal welcome at the forecourt of Rashtrapati Bhavan, on Friday. After his formal welcome, the Vietnamese prime minister will visit Raj Ghat to pay homage to Mahatma Gandhi.
Following this, he will have a meeting with the prime minister, Narendra Modi, where the two leaders are scheduled to hold crucial bilateral discussions. The talks will cover a wide range of issues, including trade, security, and regional cooperation.
After the discussion, Modi will host a luncheon in the honour of his Vietnamese counterpart.
During his visit, Chinh will call on the president, Droupadi Murmu, and the vice-president, Jagdeep Dhankhar. Additionally, the foreign minister, S Jaishankar, is also expected to engage in discussions with the visiting Vietnamese prime minister.
India and Vietnam share deep historical and civilizational ties, which were elevated to a comprehensive strategic partnership during Modi’s September 2016 visit to Vietnam. Hanoi plays a pivotal role in New Delhi’s Act-East Policy and Indo-Pacific vision, making this state visit a significant step in strengthening bilateral relations.
