Reaffirming their support for a free, open, prosperous and inclusive Indo-Pacific Region, India, the US, Japan and Australia have committed to uphold and strengthen the rules-based order in the region with shared democratic values in mind.
The foreign ministry officials of all these countries met in Singapore on Thursday on the margins of ASEAN-centred Senior Officials Meeting for consultations on issues of common interest in the Indo-Pacific region.
The participants discussed ways to achieve shared goals, including in development and connectivity, good governance, regional security, counter terrorism and nonproliferation and maritime cooperation, the external ministry said.
The Indian side highlighted its vision for the Indo-Pacific Region as outlined in Prime Minister’s Keynote Address at Shangri-La Dialogue.
The four countries reaffirmed their strong support for ASEAN centrality and ASEAN-led mechanisms in the regional architecture for the Indo-Pacific.
They agreed to partner with all countries and institutions in the region to promote the shared vision of a peaceful, secure and prosperous Indo-Pacific, including through such plurilateral formats.
