Tashkent: Defence Minister Rajnath Singh on Friday arrived at Tashkent to attend the Shanghai Cooperation Organisation (SCO) meeting.
“Raksha Mantri Shri @rajnathsingh signing the Visitors Book at Shastri School in Tashkent. He paid also paid tributes to former Prime Minister Lal Bahadur Shastri. @amb_tashkent,” the Defence Minister Office said in a series of tweets.
The defence minister paid floral tributes at the statue of former Prime Minister of India, Lal Bahadur Shastri on Shastri Street in Tashkent, Uzbekistan.
“Raksha Mantri Shri @rajnathsingh visited Shastri Memorial School in Tashkent and interacted with the students studying there. @amb_tashkent,” it added.

Earlier in the morning, taking to micro-blogging site Twitter, Mr Singh said,''Leaving New Delhi for Tashkent to attend the Shanghai Cooperation Organisation (SCO) meeting and also have bilateral engagements with Uzbekistan. Look forward to meet Uzbekistan’s Defence Minister, Major Gen K Nizamovich to discuss issues pertaining to defence cooperation.''
This will be the third CHG meeting after India became a member of SCO. The last two CHG meetings were held on November 30- December 1, 2017, at Sochi in Russia and on October 11-12, 2018 at Dushanbe in Tajikistan.
The leaders participating in the two-day meeting are expected to focus their discussions on the multilateral economic cooperation and economic development in the region.
The SCO CHG meeting is a forum that enables India to engage with SCO member countries and Observer states of Afghanistan, Belarus, Iran and Mongolia.
It is the first major meeting since Kyrgyzstan took over as chair of the Organization.
