New Delhi: The Russian defence minister, Sergei Shoigu, had a telephonic meeting with his Indian counterpart, Rajnath Singh, to discuss bilateral defence ties and ongoing war between Russia and Ukraine. Shoigu also apprised Singh of Moscow’s perception that Kyiv might use a “dirty bomb” in the war.
However, Singh reiterated New Delhi’s position on the need to pursue the path of dialogue and diplomacy for an early resolution of the conflict.
He pointed out that the nuclear option should not be resorted to by any side as the prospect of the usage of nuclear or radiological weapons goes against the basic tenets of humanity. The Russian Minister also discussed with his Chinese counterpart about the prevailing situation in Ukraine.
Earlier, Shoigu expressed to his French, UK, US, and Turkish counterparts about his concern.
The phone call was made at Shoigu’s request. Both Ministers agreed to remain in touch.
