New Delhi: The Delhi Police said they have dismantled an al-Qaida terror module and detained 14 suspected terrorists from Jharkhand, Rajasthan, and Uttar Pradesh. On Thursday, a Delhi Police statement said the operation, conducted in collaboration with state police forces, followed intelligence inputs indicating the presence of a well-organized network aiming to carry out major terrorist activities within the country.
The police said the terror module, led by one Dr Ishtiyaq, belonging to Ranchi, Jharkhand, was planning to declare a “khilafat” (caliphate) and execute serious terrorist acts. The detainees, the police claimed, had received extensive training in weapon handling and other combat skills. They were apprehended during coordinated raids across multiple states.
The Delhi Police statement said six individuals were detained from Bhiwadi in Rajasthan while “undergoing weapons training”. The remaining eight were apprehended from various locations in Jharkhand and Uttar Pradesh. The police have also recovered a significant cache of arms and ammunition, including an AK-47 rifle, a .38-bore revolver, an air rifle, a hand grenade, and several live cartridges.
The arrested suspects are currently being interrogated, and further arrests are anticipated as the investigation progresses. The police also added that they are conducting additional raids to uncover more weapons and documents related to the terror network.
