New Delhi: INSV Tarini is homeward bound. The crew – Lieutenant Commander Dilna K. and Lieutenant Commander Roopa triumphantly crossed the iconic Cape of Good Hope on April 17, marking another monumental milestone in their epic circumnavigation journey.

Two days ago, Indian Navy Sailing Vessel (INSV) Tarini had set sail from Cape Town, South Africa for Goa on the final leg of a global circumnavigation.

Part of the Navika Sagar Parikrama-II initiative, the vessel is expected to reach Goa by the end of May.

Having successfully navigated the challenging waters of the Southern Ocean, the crew crossed the three major Capes – Cape of Good Hope, Cape Leeuwin, and Cape Horn.

“This remarkable feat showcases the crew's exceptional seamanship, resilience, and teamwork, setting a new benchmark for Indian sailing and inspiring a nation,” Indian Navy PRO Captain Vivek Madhwal said.

“The crew's journey is a testament to India's growing presence in global maritime exploration and adventure.”

About INSV Tarini

The vessel was flagged off from Goa on October 2, last year by Indian Navy Chief Admiral Dinesh K Tripathi, as India Sentinels had reported earlier.

The vessel was ceremonially flagged off from the Royal Cape Yacht Club in Cape Town at 10.30am local time for the final leg of her journey to Goa, he said.

Tarini is undertaking the global circumnavigation journey under the Navika Sagar Parikrama II, an Indian Navy expedition attempting a double-handed circumnavigation of the earth via the three great capes.

“The circumnavigation is a significant endeavour aimed at promoting ocean sailing in India, showcasing the strength and resilience of Indian women in uniform, and highlighting India's indigenous shipbuilding capabilities,” the spokesman said.
