New Delhi: INS Tabar, the Indian Navy’s multirole guided-missile frigate, has successfully concluded this year’s edition of India-Russia Maritime Partnership Exercise (India-Russia MPX – 2024) with the Russian Federation Navy corvette Soobrazitelny in the Baltic Sea, the Navy said in a news release on Friday. The exercise, which took place on July 30, follows the Indian warship’s participation in the 328th Russian Navy Day parade in St Petersburg, on July 28, as India Sentinels reported earlier.
The MPX involved a series of complex naval manoeuvres, including communication drills, search-and-rescue tactics, and replenishment at sea procedures. These exercises are designed to enhance interoperability between the two navies and strengthen cooperation in maritime security.

During the Russian Navy Day celebrations, the Russian president, Vladimir Putin, greeted INS Tabar and its crew on the Neva river during the event. The Indian warship was among the fleet reviewed by Putin.
The Navy further said the participation of INS Tabar in the Russian Navy Day celebrations and subsequent MPX underscores the strong bilateral relationship between India and Russia. Both nations have a shared commitment to maintaining peace, stability, and security in the region.
It may be noted that the Talwar-class multirole guided-missile frigate INS Tabar was built in Russia and was commissioned into the Indian Navy, on April 19, 2004, in Russia’s Kaliningrad with Captain Biswajit Dasgupta as its commander. It has visited Russia several times earlier and took part in earlier editions of the MPX. The frontline warship’s homeport is Mumbai now and is currently being commanded by Captain MR Harish.
