Panaji: To augment Nation’s fight against the severe spread of COVID-19, Indian Navy’s Dornier aircraft on Tuesday carrying 38 samples for coronavirus testing took off from INS Hansa to Pune.

“A Dornier aircraft of the Indian Navy carrying 38 samples for COVID-19 testing took off from INS Hansa to Pune on 31 March 2020,” an official said.

The samples were carried by an official from the Goa State Health department.

The move came into action, when a request to the Navy for providing air transport was received by Flag Officer Commanding Goa from the Secretary (Health).

In recent, the same aircraft with a team of four doctors from Goa State Health department, got airborne from INS Hansa to Pune last week for training purpose to set up a COVID test facility at Goa.

On Friday, Indian Navy’s Long Range Maritime Reconnaissance Aircraft Ilyushin 38SD (IL-38) delivered a shipment of 60,000 face masks from Delhi to Goa, which was stuck in Delhi as trucks could not proceed further in the current situation of lockdown.
