Colombo: The Indian Navy’s submarine INS Shalki arrived in the Sri Lankan capital, on Friday, for a two-day goodwill visit, the service said in a statement. The submarine was accorded a ceremonial welcome by the Sri Lanka Navy upon its arrival.
The visit is seen as a further strengthening of the already robust maritime cooperation between India and Sri Lanka. The two nations have a long history of shared maritime interests and have been working closely to enhance security and stability in the Indian Ocean Region (IOR).
During its stay, the Indian crew is expected to interact with their Sri Lankan counterparts, engaging in professional exchanges and sports events. The visit also provides an opportunity for both navies to enhance interoperability and cooperation.
India has been a steadfast partner to Sri Lanka, providing substantial assistance in various sectors, including defence, economy, and infrastructure. This visit by INS Shalki is another testament to the deep-rooted friendship between the two countries.
