Navy chief visits Mizoram, discuss state’s strategic importance

Indian Navy chief Admiral Sunil Lanba on Wednesday discussed strategic importance of Mizoram and issues relating to border management with Governor Lt Gen Nirbhay Sharma (Retd).
He was on a 4-day visit to northeastern states including Manipur Tripura and Mizoram.
The Navy chief was received by Major General Upendra Dwivedi, Inspector General Assam Rifles (East) and other senior officers of Army and Assam Rifles, sources said.
He also commended the stellar performance of Assam Rifles in guarding the Indo-Myanmar border and appreciated the efforts taken by Assam Rifles in establishing a strong bond with the local population.
This was the first such visit by the Chairman Chief of Staff Committee and Chief of Naval Staff to Mizoram.
