Operation Brahma: 4 Indian Naval Ships sail with relief material to Myanmar

INS Satpura carrying relief material arrived in Myanmar

New Delhi: Soon after the devastating earthquake in Myanmar and Thailand on March 28, the Indian Navy has sent four warships, carrying relief material, for rendering assistance to Myanmar, as part of Operation Brahma.

The 7.7-magnitude earthquake in Myanmar left over 1,600 dead and thousands injured.

Under “Operation Brahma,” so far India has delivered 137 tonnes of relief material, deployed rescue teams, and dispatched medical and naval support to help its neighbour recover.

The HADR efforts, led by the ministry of external affairs, are being progressed in conjunction with Headquarters Integrated Defence Staff, Indian Army, Indian Air Force and NDRF.

From the Eastern Naval Command Visakhapatnam, the Indian Navy ships – INS Satpura and INS Savitri have sailed for Yangon on March 29, as part of the Indian Navy's immediate response towards humanitarian assistance and disaster relief (HADR).

In addition, Indian Navy Ships Karmuk and LCU 52 from the Andaman and Nicobar Command also began sailing for Yangon on March 30, to assist in the HADR operations.

The Navy ships carried approximately 52 tonnes of relief material, including HADR pallets consisting of essential clothing, drinking water, food, medicines, and emergency stores.

“The Indian Navy remains committed to India's resolve to remain the 'First Responder' in the region,” Indian Navy PRO Captain Vivek Madhwal said.

MEA Spokesperson Randhir Jaiswal in a post on X said: “#OperationBrahma continues. Two C-17 aircraft with 118 member Indian Army Field Hospital Unit, including women & child care services and 60 tonnes of relief material have landed in Myanmar. With these, five relief flights from India have landed in Myanmar today.”
