New Delhi: Vice Admiral AN Pramod has assumed charge as the director general naval operations (DGNO), on Monday. He takes charge from Vice Admiral Atul Anand, who was appointed DGNO on April 1, 2023.
Earlier, VAdm Pramod was the flag officer commanding (FOC) of the Indian Navy’s Maharashtra Naval Area.

About VAdm Pramod
According to an Indian Navy release, VAdm AN Pramod is an alumnus of the 38th Integrated Cadet Course, Naval Academy, Goa. He was commissioned into the Indian Navy on July 1, 1990.
VAdm Pramod is a Category “A” Sea King air operations officer and a communication & electronics warfare specialist. During his Observer Course, he was awarded the FOC-in-C East Rolling trophy for topping in flying training and ground subjects and the Uttar Pradesh trophy for being first in the overall order of merit. He stood second in the Long Communication Course and did his Staff Course at Defence Services Staff College in Wellington, Tamil Nadu, and the Naval Higher Command Course at the Naval War College in Goa.
In its release, the Navy listed some of his important afloat appointments. They include his posting as fleet operations officer of the Western Fleet, commander of INS Abhay, INS Shardul, and INS Satpura warships, commander of the Port Blair naval air station, INS Utkorsh.
He was also appointed the directing staff of DSSC, Wellington.
VAdm Pramod also held several important staff appointments, including joint director, naval air staff and the principal director of aircraft acquisition for the Navy. He has also been a member of Indian Strategic & Operational Council (INSOC) and Tactical Audit Group (TAG).
The flag officer also held the posts of the deputy commandant, Indian Naval Academy, assistant chief of naval staff (air) (ACNS (N)) at the Naval Headquarters.
VAdm AN Pramod is married to Ambili Pramod. They have two children – Chitranjali and Siddhanta.
