Chandigarh: In order to celebrate the 104th Birth Anniversary of the Marshal of the Air Force Arjan Singh DFC, 4th edition of Marshal of the Air Force Arjan Singh Memorial Hockey Tournament-2023 is being organised by Air Force Sports Control Board at Raghbir Singh Bhola Hockey Stadium, 3 BRD Air Force Station, Chandigarh from April 10-15.
A total of 12 Teams are participating including Bangladesh, Sri Lanka & United Kingdom Air Force Hockey Teams making it an International tournament.
Air Marshal Vibhas Pande, Air Officer Commanding-in-Chief, Maintenance Command, who was the Chief Guest of the Opening ceremony, declared the tournament open.
Speaking on the occasion, the Chief Guest said, “We are delighted to be back with the Marshal of the Arjan Singh Memorial Hockey Tournament which is the prestigious tournament in the country.”
“This tournament will provide a platform to the elite hockey teams of the country and Indian Air Force will ensure that no stone is left unturned in the smooth conduct of the tournament..
The organising of this Hockey Tournament is a befitting tribute to the Air Force legend in an admirable way to express gratitude towards his contribution to the nation, he added.
The prominent Veteran Hockey Players were felicitated and various cultural programmes were presented during the Opening Ceremony.
The Opening match was played between Indian Air Force (IAF) and Chandigarh XI. Chandigarh XI team won the match by 3 -1 goals.
The Chief Guest presented a cheque of Rs 10,000/ to the Man of the Match, Bikramjit Singh, the Goalkeeper of Chandigarh XI.
Indian Navy won the Second match against Punjab & Sind Bank by 2-0 on the Day One of the Tournament.
