Government committed to provide affordable medicines: Choubey

New Delhi: The Central government is committed to provide better health services and affordable medicines to all section of societies, Minister of State for Health and Family & Welfare Ashwini Choubey said on Saturday.

Speaking on the occasion of Jan Aushadhi Diwas organised at Safdarjung Hospital here, Mr Choubey said, “There are three pillars of Healthy India —- Jan Aushadhi, Nutrition and Ayushman Yojna. The government is working on it aggressively.”In 2014, Prime Minister Narendra Modi had launched Pradhan Mantri Bhartiya Jan Aushadhi Pariyojana Kendra for the noble cause – Quality Medicines at Affordable Prices for All.

The campaign was undertaken through sale of generic medicines through exclusive outlets namely “Jan Aushadhi Medical Store” in various districts of the country.

In September 2015, the 'Jan Aushadhi Scheme' was revamped as 'Pradhan Mantri Jan Aushadhi Yojana' (PMJAY).

Currently, there are 6,200 Jan Aushadhi Kendras in 700 districts in the country.

Total sales of these stores in the financial year 2019-20 has crossed Rs 390 crore.
