New Delhi: With continuous awareness campaign about breastfeeding India can achieve the infant mortality rate at 12/1000, Minister of State for Health and Family Welfare Ashwini Choubey has said during the meeting of Health Ministers of BRICS nations in Brazil.
The infant mortality rate(IMR) means the number of deaths per 1,000 live births of children under one year of age.
Highlighting the Indian government’s initiative regarding breastfeeding and breast milk bank, the minister informed the participating nations that India is doing better in this regard.
“We will take the breastfeeding rate to 70 per cent by 2025. In recent times, we have got to see better result due to continuous awareness campaign,” Mr Choubey said.
He also said that the government is making its effort to bring down the infant mortality rate to 12/1000 from current 23/1000.
In breast milk bank, a number of measures has been taken.
He said that the Modi government has focused on life saving drugs and better medical facilities. Janashudhi and Ayushman Bharat are the important schemes of the government in making India disease free.
The member nations Brazil, Russia, China and South Africa have appreciated the India’s effort in this regard.
On tuberculosis, the minister said that India is working to eliminate this menace by 2025. However, the global community has kept the target of 2030.
A Yoga session was also conducted for the participants and the minister gave them some tips in an effort to lead a happy and healthy life.
