National Symposium of Poets organized in Delhi

New Delhi: With aims to provide a creative platform for national integration and linguistic harmony through mutual interaction and coordinated presentation of the best in contemporary poetry of all Indian languages, a Sarvbhasha Kavi Sammelan or National Symposium of Poets was organized on Friday here, wherein 23 eminent poets from 22 languages come together on stage.

This Kavi Sammelan made its beginning in 1956 is a unique presentation of All India Radio (AIR) which is held every year and is broadcast on the eve of Republic Day.

Eminent Litterateur Chitra Mudgal was the Chief Guest on the occasion that started with the traditional lighting of the lamp, joined in by Additional Director General of All India Radio Rajshekhar Vyas.

In his address Director General of All India Radio F Sheheryar highlighted the enormity of AIR’s efforts in organizing the event and further in its broadcast.

He said that not only all are the poems translated in Hindi but also in the native language of the respective regions to which the language belongs. “This regional translated version is broadcast over the regional network in the native language on the eve of Republic Day and the Hindi version is aired on the National Hook up of all India Radio,” Mr Sheheryar added.

This helps in taking the literature of one language to the extreme corners of the country in the language understood by the audience of that region.

Dr Chitra Mudgal underlined the role of poets and writers in building the cultural fabric of the Nation and appreciated the role of All India Radio for organizing such events showcasing the spirit of Ek Bharat Shreshtha Bharat.

The poets who presented their poems to a spellbound jam-packed auditorium include Bhagirathi Nand (Sanskrit), Rajiv Borah (Assamese), Hrudanada Panigrahi (Odiya), Rehman Musavvir (Urdu), Bheemararya Hemnoor (Kannad), Hanumant C. Chopedkar (Konkani) Nighat Sahiba (Kashmiri), Sneh Parmar (Gujrati), Inderjeet Kesar (Dogri), S Panchavarnam (Tamil), Mamidi Harikrishna (Telugu), Bhavilal Lami Chhnae (Nepali), Darshan Bhuttar (Punjabi), Kali Krishna Guhe (Bangla), Dhansiri Swargiary (Bodo), Jodhachandra Sanasam (Manipuri), Vijay Nath Jha (Maithili), P Raman (Malyalam), Pradeepv Niphadkar (Marathi), Shalini Sagar (Sindhi), Dashrathi Manjhi (Santhali), Kirti Kale and Narendra Gaur (Hindi).
