Aero India show: Govt to hold “Drone Olympics” to boost UAV makers

Aiming to giving a boost to unmanned aerial vehicle (UAV) market especially start-ups, the government will hold international level “Drone Olympics” for the first time at Aero India show in Bengaluru on February 21 wherein domestic as well as international giants would demonstrate their potentials. “We are entering into advanced technology market so have called for competition at Aero India show. The competition will not only encourage the UAV manufacturing in the country but will also provide an opportunity to the armed forces to assess the capabilities that exists in the world,” sources in the defence ministry said. The competition will be held in three categories, including surveillance, delivery and formation flying challenge. The winners shall be awarded with medals and a total cash prize of Rs 38 lakh shall be given to top three winners from each competition. In this regard, Defence Minister Nirmala Sitharaman on Friday launched a newly designed webpage for “Drone Olympics” for registration of UAV players. The players can register themselves for the challenge till January 26.
