The Indian Army, on Saturday, organized a veterans outreach programme at Suresh Bhat Auditorium in Nagpur, aiming to reach out to the ex-servicemen fraternity settled in Nagpur and adjoining areas and address their grievances.
Mumbai sub-area general officer commanding (GOC) Maj Gen Rajesh Kundra highlighted the major policy changes made in the last one year for the benefits of ex-servicemen that include removal of the monthly cap of Rs 10,000 on expenditure towards hostel and tuition fees of wards of personnel killed, missing or disabled in action, re-introduction of the provision of dependents identity card by Kendriya Sainik Board and 2018 being celebrated as ‘Year of the Disabled Soldier in the Line of Duty’.
While appealing to the veterans to avail these facilities, Maj Gen Kundra also sensitized them on guarding themselves against rumour mongering, especially through social media and against allowing their names to be misused by vested interests.
On the occasion, six Veer Naris, one Veer Mata and one Veer Pita were honoured, who have given their loved ones for the country. The ex-servicemen were appreciative of the efforts put in by the Army and were visibly impressed with the arrangements, Indian Army spokesman Col Aman Anand said.
Further, Col Anand added, “Army is planning of more such events across the country. Veterans have been requested to keep an eye.”
Over 350 ex-servicemen and "veer naris" attend this programme. It was announced that the next welfare programmes are tentatively planned for October, in form of an ex-serviceman job fair and a "pension adalat" under the aegis of Controller General of Defence Accounts.
