In a concerted effort, the Indian Army on Monday rescued a bus carrying 35 Indo-Tibetian Border Police (ITBP) personnel after it fell into a gorge along the Jammu-Srinagar National Highway.
“Today at around 0830hour, a civilian bus being driven by a civilian driver carrying 35 Jawans of 32 ITBP Battalion moving from Badgam to Kanpur, develop a mechanical fault and went down. Timely rescue operations by 101 Infantry Battalion (TA) and 23 RR along with civil administration resulted in evacuation of all casualties,” an Indian Army official said.
One Jawan of ITBP namely Md Ahmed Ali succumbed to injuries.
Others were shifted to District Hospital in Ramban.
Further nine critical casualties were air evacuated to Jammu in two Air Force and two Pawan Hans sorties from Chanderkot helipad.
The personnel were deployed in Budgam district in connection with the recently held panchayat polls and they were returning to their base outside the state when the accident occurred.
