Centre rushes 11 companies of paramilitary forces to Shillong

The government on Monday send 11 companies of paramilitary forces to contain the communal violence erupted in Meghalaya’s capital Shillong on Thursday. Sources in the Home Ministry said, “11 companies of the paramilitary security forces have been rushed to Meghalaya on the State government’s request.” However, the sources also added that more personnel will be deployed if the situation demands.” The Meghalaya capital is under curfew since Saturday after a fight between residents of Shillong’s Punjabi Line area and Khasi drivers of state-run buses.
