New Delhi: Outgoing Army Chief Gen Bipin Rawat will take charge as Chief of Defence Staff (CDS) on Wednesday.
Gen Rawat demitted the office of the Chief of Army Staff on Tuesday.
“Gen Bipin Rawat, Chief of Defence Staff will attend the tri-services ceremonial functions January 1, 2020,” an official statement said.
The CDS will function as a single-point adivsor to the government on matters related to the military and will focus on better synergy between the Indian Army, Indian Air Force and the Indian Navy.
Last week, the government has given approval for the creation of CDS post. It was announced by Prime Minister Narendra Modi during his Independence Day address from the ramparts of the Red Fort.
